Surgery

We understand that surgery may be a frightening prospect, both for you and your pet. Rest assured, when your pet comes to us for a surgical procedure, they will be in the hands of our experienced, compassionate and skilled surgical team. All surgeries require your pet to be placed under a general anesthesia. Our surgical team has the best and latest equipment to monitor your pet during surgery.  Afterwards, your pet will be given the time needed to come around from the anesthetic in post-op recovery. Next, our team will guide you through what you can expect from the at home recovery period.

Spay/Neuter Surgery

Removal of the reproductive organs is the most common veterinary surgery that we provide. You may hear of this being referred to as spaying, castration or neutering. Spaying is the term normally used to refer to female pets, and castration to refer to the procedure in males. Neutering is a non-gender specific term for the process. When a female pet is spayed, the uterus and ovaries are removed. When a male is castrated, the testes are removed. Both are out-patient procedures that require a recovery time of 7-14 days.

There are many benefits of neutering your pet. These advantages include:

  • Elimination of the risk of cancer of the reproductive organs including testicular cancer, uterine cancer, and ovarian cancer.

  • Preventing unwanted pregnancy and the cost and stress involved in raising puppies.

  • Not contributing to the overpopulation crisis.

  • Prevention of prostate problems in males.

  • Reduction in hormone-related aggression.

  • Reduction in urine marking and other territorial behaviors.

If you would like more information about neutering, our expert veterinary care team would be happy to help.
